DeFi Wireless F.A.Q.
Setting up your DeFi Service:
First, it is important to be sure your mobile device is ready:
If you have not yet installed DeFi on your device, please visit our ACTIVATE NOW button, to sign up for service.
Please set the "Internet connection" options on your phone to "Always Ask". This means that rather than defaulting to your network operator's 3G web service you can choose to use WiFi connections instead when you connect to the Internet with your phone. To do this, press Menu and select Web. Next, select Options and scroll down to Settings. Select General and while highlighted on Access Point, choose Options, select Change and select Always Ask. Now, let's get started:
How do I search for an available access point?
Press DeFi on the lower right hand corner or choose the DeFi logo if you have placed it on the front screen. Once in the DeFi client, there are two ways to proceed. One is to choose Options, then select Access Points or Select WLAN Network. The second option is to press the center button on the Nokia navigation key which will automatically scan for the available access points.
How do I connect to an available access point?
Once you have scanned for and see a list of available access points, simply select your access point by pressing the OK soft key or pressing the center button on your Nokia device. If the access point you are connecting to requires a WAP or WEP authentication key/password, you will need to enter the key when prompted. After entering the key, simply press the OK soft key button. Your device will then verify and connect to your access point. You are now connected. This point is also saved in your "trusted" access points and will automatically connect the next time you are in range of the access point. Once the software has chosen an access point, hide the application. If you accidentally select the red or End key, the connection to the access point will be terminated.
There are three main types of WiFi access points:
1. WEP or WAP protected access point - This type of WiFi access point requires a WEP or WAP key to be entered to connect. These are generally private password protected WiFi access points.
2. Unprotected access point - This type of access point requires no key to connect.
3. "Walled Garden" access point - This type of access point can require a username and password assigned by the hotspot provider. If you have selected an access point and receive a message from DeFi stating "Manual login required", you have attempted to connect to a web authentication/"Walled Garden" access point. Simply launch your device's web browser, select the access point from the list that appears, and navigate to any web page. The hotspot provider's web authentication landing page will be displayed. If you were issued credentials by the hotspot provider, simply enter them on the web authentication landing page to connect. Once connected, do not close the browser on your device or the connection will be lost. Instead, navigate to your home screen and re-launch the DeFi application. Select the access point again and DeFi will connect to the "Walled Garden" access point.
How do I set up and check voice mail?
Set up and check voice mail by pressing and holding the 1 key on your Nokia device. A screen will appear with the choice to check either Voice mailbox (cellular) or Internet call mailbox (DeFi). Choose Internet call mailbox (DeFi). A new field will appear asking you to enter the mailbox number. Enter your DeFi number exactly as it appears, from your welcome email. Your device will begin establishing the call to your DeFi voicemail. When prompted, enter your default password from your DeFi Welcome Email to access your voicemail account. You will be prompted to change your voicemail password upon initial log in. Your new password must be 6 digits in length. You will only need to enter your password the first time you set up your voicemail. The DeFi automated attendant will give you options for: customization, navigation, recording various personal greetings, and personalization of other options. Follow the simple, step-by-step instructions. Be sure to press the # key or follow the automated attendant's instructions on how to accept changes or they may not be saved. These easy steps are just the beginning of what is a very fulfilling, business-grade experience for DeFi Global Access members. DeFi Mobile uses the latest technology to deliver all the telephone service and features you've come to expect, combined with innovative new capabilities.

Do I have additional phone numbers associated with my phone?
If you selected the $50/month plan, you upgraded your service to DeFi Global Access+, which enables you to have two additional numbers (virtual numbers). DeFi Global Access+ allows you to choose from which country these additional numbers will originate.
DeFi currently offers phone numbers from more than 30 countries. DeFi Mobile suggests choosing numbers from countries in which you have business associates, family or customers. This will enable them to call a local number free to reach you without being stuck with long distance international fees that they may experience if they use a service other than DeFi Mobile.
